You Don’t See Me

Two people occupy the same space, yet seem to exist at very different depths.

One figure appears emotionally present, looking towards the other, while the other seems to retreat into another place, physically there, but psychologically elsewhere. There is a feeling of confrontation, but also of evasion: the quiet disappointment of trying to reach someone who does not seem able, or willing, to meet you.

I was interested in the difference between what we show on the surface and what may be happening underneath. Sometimes we can sense another person very clearly, while they remain closed to us.

You Don’t See Me explores that invisible distance between two people. The loneliness of wanting to be seen, and the strange imbalance that occurs when one person is looking deeply and the other is looking away.
