The Weight We Carry

This painting emerged from an encounter with a man whose anger and agitation initially made his presence feel imposing and frightening. Yet as the moment unfolded, another figure seemed to emerge beneath the anger, someone lost, vulnerable and carrying his own fears and wounds.

I became interested in the contradiction between the outer presence we present to the world and the more fragile person that may exist underneath it. The figure feels powerful, almost monumental, yet there is something vulnerable and strangely tender within him.

The Weight We Carry is not a portrait of a particular person, but an exploration of the burdens we carry and the ways they can shape how we appear to others. Beneath anger, fear or aggression, there can be loneliness, vulnerability and the simple human desire to be understood.

Perhaps we are all carrying something invisible.
